The Drumi Eco Friendly Washing Machine is a foot-powered washing machine that does not require electricity. It is a practical and eco-friendly way to reduce the use of standard-size washing machines, especially for small loads. As an eco-friendly design, it won the Canadian National James Dyson Award when it was first announced in 2015.

The Drumi uses no electricity. It’s powered completely by a single foot pedal on the front of the unit. It will take between 5-10 minutes of pumping for a load.

It can hold up to 5 pounds (2.25 kg) of clothing. This translates to about 6 (more or less) articles of clothing. It’s also very efficient when it comes to water use. Your typical washing machine will use as much as 12.5 Gal (50 L) per load. The Drumi only uses 10 liters (2.6 gal) of water for a load (including the rinse cycle).

Like a regular washing machine, you can use any temperature of water in the Drumi. Warm water is ideal, but the maker does not recommend boiling water.

It’s a great way to quickly do a small load of laundry and save water/electricity. You even get a bit of exercise during the wash cycle from pumping it with your foot.

Since it’s portable and doesn’t require any hookups, it would be great for campers or for people who live off the grid. It would also be great for students or renters who might not have the option for a regular washing machine.

The Drumi is still in pre-order but, they are beginning delivery for early-birds starting soon. If you’re interested, please be prepared to wait until late 2017 for delivery as it was very popular and there are a lot of orders ahead of you.
