SoundBrake 2.0 – Headphone Safety Cutoff

One of the great things about headphones is that the let you shutoff the sounds of the outside world. One of the problems with doing that, however, is that you might not hear a bus bearing down on you. Well, the SoundBrake is a Headphone Safety Cutoff (via Kickstarter) that lets you shutout the world but, still hear important sounds.

You know, like the horn of the car you’re just about to step in front of. Don’t worry, it’ll only hurt a lot.

SoundBrake listens to your surroundings and instantly streams in outside sounds ONLY when they’re above the normal background noise level, so you can be aware of sounds like a door knock, phone call, announcement, car honk, or someone trying to get your attention.

Headphone Safety Cutoff

You can easily attach it to most headphones and audio players, such as a laptop, smartphone, or tablet. Just plug it “in-line” via the male and female 3.5mm audio jacks. You can even use it with Bluetooth headphones with the attachment of a Bluetooth module.

The kickstarter campaign is already fully funded and there’s still a month to go as I write this. The units are expected to ship in December so, it would make a great Christmas present.

Of course, you don’t really need this but, you should really want this. If nothing else, it’ll keep you from being splattered all over a bus you didn’t hear because you had your music turned up.
