The Scorkl is a miniature scuba tank that allows you to dive 3 meters (10 feet) under the waves for 6 to 10 minutes at a time. It’s the perfect trade-off between snorkeling and scuba diving without all of the expensive equipment. Technically, you don’t even need a scuba certification to use this mini scuba tank but, I would still recommend it.

It comes with a high-pressure hand pump so you can refill the tank anywhere. Just be aware that it will take around 12-15 minutes of pumping by hand to fill it. Alternatively, you can quickly (and much more easily) fill the tank by using an included adapter and a standard scuba air bottle.

The Scorkl regulator is an always-on, breathe-on-demand, balanced single stage regulator and uses the same time proven technology found in regulators used by SCUBA divers around the world. Each Scorkl comes with a pressure gauge which tells you how much air is left at any time. Though, you will probably have to take it out of your mouth to read it.

The cylinder is manufactured to the same specifications as a normal SCUBA cylinder so it’s safe and tough. A Scorkel tank can even be taken on a plane (unpressurized) so you can take it along for trips to exotic beaches all around the world. No more renting expensive Scuba gear for you.

Pretty awesome, right? Can’t wait to get one, right? Well, there’s a catch.

The Scorkl is still on Kickstarter with around 2 and-a-half weeks to go as I write this. It’s been fully funded (and then some) but, as it’s been a huge success, there are no more units available. The first batch is expected to ship in October of this year so, you’ll have to wait until after that happens.

On the plus side, additional units should be available just in time for Wintertime in the US/EU so, you can probably get one before taking a trip away from the snow and cold to somewhere wet and warm.
